Yesterday people from across Canada took part in the annual Terry Fox run. This event raises funds and awareness for cancer research, and sees community involvement from all age ranges from youth to senior.
The Optimist Club did not take part in the run. Our knees wont take it. However, we still wanted to help and were happy to pitch in. Our volunteers gave up part of their Sunday to put up a water station, handing out free bottles of water to runners as they passed. The temperature yesterday hit 30 degrees Celcius and there is not much shade when you are pounding the road, so this water was a very welcome respite for the runners!
The Terry Fox Run has been an annual tradition for many years and continues to grow. It is an excellent cause, and we are happy to have made our little contribution to it. Keep on running, Foxers.
