As the year rolls into Autumn the time came for our intrepid band of volunteers to once more assemble for the Killaly Street cleanup. The Optimist Club adopted Killaly Street many years ago as part of our commitment to the community. Twice per year we scour the ditches on both sides of the 4km road which connects Port Colborne to Gasline, at Highway 3 East of town.
Assisted once more by the Pathfinders (thank you, team!) we began at 9am and made short work of the process, with four teams in two groups at each end on different sides of the road, and meeting in the middle. We collected 16 full garbage bags between us, a full 10 bags fewer than we collected in the Spring, so thank you to everyone that took their garbage with them instead of throwing it from your car windows! We cleaned up everything from dead critters to empty alcohol containers, Tim Hortons cups and Dairy Queen spoons. And a surprising amount of glass from car tail lights.
Killaly street is once more clean and pretty, all the garbage has been removed for now. Which keeps Port Colborne looking smart and tidy. You’re welcome. See you in another six months!
