The Optimist Club annual Bike Rodeo takes place on Community Safety Day. This year the Port Colborne firefighters are hosting the event on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services facility on Mellanby Ave.
This completely FREE event has plenty of activities including interactive fire safety displays, exhibits, & other demonstrations, along with complimentary snacks and refreshments.
Our part is to help teach young riders about traffic awareness, and how to be visible and safe on the road. As part of the Bike Rodeo an obstacle course will show riders how to safely navigate common hazards such as intersections and stop signs. Niagara Regional Police will be on hand to answer safety questions and hand out stickers. Also on hand, Aubrey Foley from the Broken Spoke program will join us to discuss bike maintenence and repairs. There will be colouring pages to keep non-riders busy.
All things considered it looks set to be an entertaining and informative day, with much to see and do. Worried about the weather? We are at the fire hall on Mellanby Ave. and the firefighters will be spraying hoses. It’s going to take more than a little rain to stop us. So come on out, bring your family, and enjoy the day.
Note: Helmets not supplied – riders are reqested to bring their own safety helmets if they wish to participate in the bike rodeo.
