Canada Day 2023 saw 25 craft vendors, several food trucks, a dozen performing artists including a stirring appearance by the Niagara Regional Police Pipe Band, and many assorted activities for the kids keep a park full of people entertained throughout the day.
Entertainment in the bandstand began with Mad Science and went through to close of the event with the Small Town Kings.
In between we had assorted performers and singers from Ann Singer’s Rising Stars, one of whose number, Port’s very own Violet King, sang the national anthem in front of an honour guard from the British Legion. In attendance were MP Vance Badawey, Mayor Bill Steele, and Adam, representing the office of Jeff Burch MPP.
After the anthem MP Badawey and Mayor Steele went on to say a few words about the historical significance of Canada Day.
After which solemn moment we moved quickly to their traditional task of the day, the handing out of Canada Day Cupcakes provided by the City of Port Colborne to a horde of hungry people.
We the people of Port Colborne thank you!
We would also like to thank our generous sponsors and those that made donations to our annual Penny Sale, and congratulate all the prize winners. We want to thank the many volunteers that worked tirelessly on the preparations as well as in the park on the day to keep things running. Most notably, thanks to the Guides for their invaluable assistance running the kids games. Not to be overlooked, I’d like to say a big thank you to the cleanup crew from the City. They made the park ready, stayed throughout, and after. With smiles all the way, and that’s not in their job description.
