Sponsorship Success

This summer the PC Optimist Club provided sponsorship for a local youth in the International Children Games Judo tournament.

Marlie Topolinsky is 13, a recent graduate of McKay Public School. She trains 3-4 days per week at the Port Colborne Judo Club and had gained her orange belt. Her drive and determination made her stand out enough for her hard work to be recognized by former Judo Olympian Kim Ribble-Orr, who selected Marlie to represent Canada at the 57th Olympic sponsored tournament.

This year the event was held in Tallinn, Estonia. Our sponsorship helped with expenses and costs. Teams from around the world gathered to compete. Marlie did exceptionally well to pass the selection process, and reach the tournament. She joins the ranks of top athletes to compete at this level. The friendships and bonds made with children from around the world during this tournament will last a long time.

Sadly, Marlie just missed taking home the bronze, placing 4th after a hard battle. An extremely commendable performance! We look forward to seeing Marlie excel at her chosen sport in future events. Well done, Marlie!
