Last weekend saw our intrepid crew out clearing ditches again on the 4km stretch of Killaly between Elizabeth Street and Hwy. 3. The numbers are in and here they are:
8 Optimists were joined by 2 members from our Junior Optimist Club, as well as 11 Pathfinders along with 2 of their leaders. Thank you all so much for pitching in to help keep this road clean and tidy. This stretch of road is the first sight many see of our little City when arriving from the East, and our work helps give them a good first impression.
This collective team made short work of the task. In two hours we cleared ditches of 3 large items requiring the City to collect, along with 14 full garbage bags of assorted debris and detritus. This is a marked decrease, down considerably from a peak of 26 garbage bags in recent years. And we thank Port Colborne for that. Taking your garbage home with you is the easiest way to help.
Fun
This is the kind of thing we like to do. Everyone rolled up their sleeves, had fun while working on something meaningful that always has immediate impact in the community. We do our road cleanup up every six months. We will be doing it in Spring. We can always use extra hands. If this sounds like the kind of club you would enjoy being a part of please consider membership. We’d love to have you along for the ride.
