Community Safety Day 2026

At the Community Safety Day event yesterday, Optimist Club members were on hand as always to teach youngsters the basics of bicycle road safety. We want all our kids to be safe on the roads.

Also at the event was Broken Spoke, the community program founded and led by local legend Aubrey Foley, which gets countless second-hand bicycles to wherever they are needed in Port Colborne and far beyond, including overseas.

Broken Spoke is a volunteer organization that takes in old bikes and refurbishes them as new before giving them away again, free.

That kind of commitment is wonderful to see. Their work is donated free, but the necessary parts and tools and administration cost money. The Port Colborne Optimist Club was pleased to donate $500 at the event, to help this wonderful program.
