The annual kids fishing derby in Port Colborne has been a welcome part of our community life for many years. Open to kids from 3-13 (accompanied by an adult), the kids spend a morning sitting by the water vying for prizes and trophies and generally having a great time.
Throughout its entire run the event has been successfully organized and managed by the PC Conservation Club. We thank them for making this event the success it has become. For reasons, this year the Port Colborne Optimist Club was handed the reins, and with their blessing (and copious amount of guidance, gratefully received) we will be taking over the running of this event in the years to come. Thank you for trusting us to run with this!
Our tireless committee members have been diligently gathering sponsors, planning, and counting worms into buckets. We have had an amazing response from our sponsors and their generosity has allowed us to offer some excellent door prizes and other treats for this event. Thank you all! To see what those prizes are, come on down.
Where and When
Our first outing for the annual kids fishing derby is on Sunday June 18! We invite everyone down to enjoy the fun at H.H. Knoll Park. Registration for this catch-and-release event begins at 8am sharp, rain or shine, at the Pavilion. The event runs until noon.
We do have a (very) limited supply of rods. They will be allocated on a first come first served basis so we strongly urge participants to bring their own gear if they can. Speaking of first come first served, the first 250 entrants to register will receive loot bags containing assorted goodies!
All entrants will also receive a free lunch, so apparently there is such a thing after all. There will be prizes and trophies for the biggest fish, as recorded by our talented team of fish-measurers, as well as prize draws and ‘door’ prizes even though there are no doors in a park. Did I mention that all of this is free?
Come down to fish, or just watch festivities. Rain or shine, we will be there. We hope you will be as well. Let’s have some fun.
